Reef Sandals twenty year heritage traces back to two brothers from Argentina, Fernando and Santiago “Santi” Aguerre. Fueled by their passion for surfing, and armed with a unique entrepreneurial spirit, the brothers acted on an idea to create a high quality, active lifestyle sandal. Attracted to the Southern California lifestyle, Santi moved to California in the early 80’s and would shortly be reunited with his brother. Fernando graduated from Law School and headed to La Jolla to help co-found Reef Sandals. With $4000 working capital, hard work, dedication and some savvy marketing ideas, the brothers built Reef Sandals into the #1 sandal brand. Nearly two decades later, Reef Sandals is thriving as one of the leading surf brands in the world offering Reef men’s closed toed footwear and Reef apparel along with Reef women’s and Reef kid’s sandals.
Fernando and Santiago knew they had a great product, but they wanted to separate themselves from the other surf companies. Inspired by the notoriously beautiful women of the beaches in South America, the brothers saw an opportunity to introduce the surf market to an exotic element that they called Miss Reef. Never revealing her face or identity, the brothers used Miss Reef to help convey their idea of the surf lifestyle. The first advertisement involving Miss Reef was rejected from the Surfing magazines for the controversial content, but after some convincing the ads finally ran. The surfers who read the magazines were instantly intrigued by the exotic and beautiful figure in the ads. Since then, Miss Reef has become a global icon of the surfing community. She has remained an integral component of Reef’s DNA and contributed to the success of Reef.
Through all the change over the past two decades, Reef Sandals is driven by the same constant – we are surfers at heart, drawing influences from the world around us. We still stand for the same things that the company was founded on by Fernando and Santi back in 1984. Reef Sandals is a core surf company. REEF footwear is guaranteed against manufacturer’s defect (from date of purchase) for a maximum of:
Six months for REEF shoes
Six months for REEF sandals
30 days for REEF apparel
30 days for REEF bags
Product covered by the REEF guarantee will be replaced at REEF’s discretion.
The following defects are covered by the REEF guarantee when claims are made within the guarantee time:
REEF SANDALS:
REEF SANDALS Loose weaving on straps (new sandals only)
REEF Straps/buckles pulling out (Where soles are not severely worn)
REEF SANDALS Delamination of layers (repairable)
REEF Glue on the straps (glue rubs off of the sole - new sandals only)
REEF SANDALS Deformation of structure due to ferocious finned aquatic animal attack (only if unprovoked)
REEF Stitching coming undone on logo (new sandals only)
REEF SANDALS Stitching coming undone on any part of straps (sandals)
REEF SHOES:
REEF SHOES Sole separation from upper
REEF Stitching coming undone on logo
REEF SHOES Seams unstitching on upper (except when due to wear)
REEF Popped or missing eyelets
REEF SHOES Non-matching color between two halves of pair
The following are NOT covered by the REEF guarantee nor are the above covered when any of the following are prevalent:
Fraying of straps/shoe uppers due to use/abuse
Deterioration as a result of water abuse
Sole wearing out or worn through
Alien abduction beam causes colors to fade
Skateboard/bicycle abuse
Cuts, scratches, burns, etc.
Shrinkage from overexposure to extreme heat
Damage caused by negligence, misuse or alteration of products
Damage caused by wetting non-waterproof products
Any problem not listed above will be evaluated on an individual basis by REEF.
IF YOUR REEF PRODUCT HAS ANY OF THE ABOVE DEFECTS, AND YOU FALL WITHIN THE WARRANTY TIMELINE, PLEASE RETURN YOUR SANDALS, WITH PROOF OF PURCHASE, TO THE STORE YOU ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THEM AT.
